History and Milestones

The Journal of Computers, Mechanical and Management was established to serve scholarly research at the convergence of computing, mechanical and industrial engineering, and management science. This page records the principal milestones in the journal's development from inception to the current snapshot, including the journal's publisher transition in 2023, the editorial leadership transition in 2024, and the indexing milestones thereafter. The page is updated as further milestones are reached.

Founding

The journal was established in 2022, with publication on the Open Journal Systems platform and a commitment to fully open-access publication under a permissive Creative Commons licence. The journal's editorial workflow on Open Journal Systems was inaugurated on 24 June 2022. Volume 1, Issue 1 was published in October 2022, establishing the journal's bimonthly publication cadence (six issues per calendar year) that has been maintained without interruption since.

Publisher transition: GADL Publishing to AAN Publishing (2023)

From its founding in 2022 through the first two issues of Volume 2 in 2023, the journal was published by GADL Publishing, India. From Volume 2, Issue 3 (31 August 2023) onwards, the journal has been published by AAN Publishing, Malaysia. The transition was announced in the Editorial Comments to Volume 2, Issue 3, and was undertaken with the stated aim of extending the journal's international footprint and elevating the quality of service to the community of authors and readers.

The DOI prefix 10.57159 has been retained continuously across the transition. Articles published under GADL Publishing carry DOIs of the form 10.57159/gadl.jcmm.[volume].[issue].[id] and remain fully resolvable through Crossref. Articles published under AAN Publishing from Volume 2, Issue 3 onwards carry DOIs of the form 10.57159/jcmm.[volume].[issue].[id]. The journal's editorial scope, indexing programme, and publication cadence have been continuous through the transition. The contribution of GADL Publishing in the journal's foundational period is acknowledged.

Editorial leadership transition (2024)

The journal was led from its founding through Volume 3, Issue 3 (mid-2024) by Dr. Nanjangud Subbarao Mohan as Editor-in-Chief. From Volume 3, Issue 4 (October 2024), Dr. Ritesh Ramakrishna Bhat assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Mohan continues with the journal as Honorary Editor in an advisory capacity, in recognition of his foundational role in establishing the journal and shaping its editorial direction. The transition was undertaken to support the journal's continuing growth and the expansion of its editorial operations.

Indexing and identifier milestones

  • 2022: Journal founded; OJS workflow inaugurated 24 June 2022; Volume 1, Issue 1 published October 2022 under GADL Publishing.
  • 2023: Crossref membership and DOI registration secured under GADL Publishing; DOI prefix 10.57159 in use from 2023 onwards. The journal was indexed in Google Scholar in the same year, making the full text of every published article discoverable through Scholar searches. Publisher transition from GADL Publishing to AAN Publishing effective Volume 2, Issue 3 (31 August 2023).
  • 2024: AAN Publishing's direct Crossref membership administration of the journal established. Editorial leadership transition effective Volume 3, Issue 4 (October 2024).
  • 8 September 2025: The journal's online ISSN (3009-075X) was registered with the ISSN National Centre for Malaysia.
  • 5 December 2025: The journal was accepted for inclusion in Scopus, with retrospective coverage of the journal's full publication history from 2022 onwards. The journal's Scopus Source ID is 21101390129. Scopus classifies the journal under four subject areas: Business, Management and Accounting (miscellaneous); Engineering (miscellaneous); Mathematics (miscellaneous); and Modeling and Simulation.
  • 2026: SCImago Journal Rank coverage commenced, derived from the journal's Scopus inclusion. The first SJR placed the journal in the third quartile of its subject categories.

As of 25 April 2026, the journal has applications in preparation or in flight for:

  • Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index): application planned following completion of the journal's current operational programme.
  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ): application planned following completion of the journal's current operational programme.

Publication record

As of 25 April 2026, the journal has published four complete volumes across the years 2022 to 2025, with Volume 5 currently in progress in 2026. The journal has published a total of 102 articles to date.

  • Volume 1 (2022 to 2023): the founding volume, published under GADL Publishing.
  • Volume 2 (2023): the volume during which the publisher transition occurred. Issues 1 and 2 were published under GADL Publishing; Issue 3 onwards under AAN Publishing, Malaysia.
  • Volume 3 (2024): the volume during which the Editor-in-Chief transition occurred at Issue 4, October 2024. Continued growth in submission volume and reviewer pool.
  • Volume 4 (2025): the volume during which the journal's online ISSN was registered (8 September 2025) and Scopus acceptance was secured (5 December 2025).
  • Volume 5 (2026, in progress): the first volume to be published with retrospective Scopus coverage applied to all preceding volumes.

Editorial leadership

The current editorial leadership of the journal is:

  • Dr. Ritesh Ramakrishna Bhat, Editor-in-Chief from October 2024 onwards;
  • Dr. Nanjangud Subbarao Mohan, Honorary Editor in an advisory capacity from October 2024 onwards (Editor-in-Chief from inception to September 2024);
  • Prof. Nithesh Naik, Managing Editor.

Policy and operational milestones

Alongside indexing and editorial development, the journal has progressively built out its public policy framework. Material policy and operational milestones include:

  • 2025: First comprehensive published peer-review policy, publication ethics statement, and open-access policy.
  • April 2026: Comprehensive policy revamp aligned with COPE, ICMJE, and CRediT standards, including new dedicated policies on artificial intelligence use, data availability and reproducibility, authorship and contributorship, conflicts of interest, and editorial independence. The dual-tier Article Processing Charge schedule and World Bank tier waiver scheme were announced in advance of their effective date of 1 October 2026.
  • From Volume 5 Issue 2, 2026: the journal's article PDF template adopts the updated copyright and licensing footer reflecting that authors retain copyright. The Statement of Licensing Clarification covers the licensing of all articles published before this cutover, including articles from the GADL-Publishing period.

Looking forward

The journal's near-term priorities are: completion of the Web of Science (ESCI) application; re-application to the Directory of Open Access Journals; expansion of the active reviewer pool; and continued growth of the journal's published output across the four article types (Original Research Articles, Systematic or Methodological Reviews, Short Communications, and Editorials).
