Authorship and Contributorship

The Journal of Computers, Mechanical and Management applies the authorship criteria recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and uses the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) for transparent reporting of individual contributions. These principles are applied to all article types, irrespective of the disciplinary area of the manuscript.

Criteria for authorship

An author is one who meets all four of the following criteria, as defined by the ICMJE:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. Final approval of the version to be published; and
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors but may be acknowledged in a dedicated Acknowledgements section, with their consent.

CRediT contribution declarations

Each manuscript must include a CRediT statement listing each author's contributions using one or more of the fourteen contributor roles defined in the CRediT taxonomy:

  • Conceptualization
  • Data curation
  • Formal analysis
  • Funding acquisition
  • Investigation
  • Methodology
  • Project administration
  • Resources
  • Software
  • Supervision
  • Validation
  • Visualization
  • Writing: original draft
  • Writing: review and editing

An example statement: "A. B. Author: Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing: original draft. C. D. Author: Software, Validation, Visualization. E. F. Author: Supervision, Funding acquisition, Writing: review and editing."

Corresponding author

One author must be designated as the corresponding author. The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication, for ensuring that all listed authors have approved the manuscript, for providing accurate contact and affiliation details, and for serving as the long-term contact for the published work.

Author identifiers

The corresponding author must register an ORCID identifier and link it to their journal account. All co-authors are strongly encouraged to register and link an ORCID identifier. ORCID identifiers are included in published article metadata and submitted to Crossref.

Changes to authorship

Any change to the authorship list, whether addition, removal, or change of order, after submission requires a written request signed by all authors (including the author being added or removed), addressed to the Editor-in-Chief at editor@jcmm.co.in, and including a clear reason for the change. Changes after acceptance are accommodated only in exceptional circumstances and may delay publication. After publication, changes to authorship are handled as a formal correction or, in rare cases, a retraction, in line with COPE guidance.

Ghost, gift, and guest authorship

The journal does not permit ghost authorship (where an individual who meets the authorship criteria is omitted), gift authorship (where an individual who does not meet the criteria is listed as a courtesy), or guest authorship (where a senior figure is included without contribution). Where evidence of any of these practices is found, the journal will follow the relevant COPE flowcharts for resolution, including the possibility of correction, retraction, or notification of the authors' institutions.

Use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools, including large language models, do not satisfy the criteria for authorship and must not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and originality of the manuscript. Disclosure of AI use is required and is described on the AI Use Policy for Authors page.
